Man Found Guilty in Assault on Detention Deputy

Brandon Medina

Pueblo, Co. - A jury found a 34-year-old Brandon Medina guilty today of assault on a peace officer for the brutal assault of a Pueblo County Sheriff’s detention deputy in the Pueblo County Jail.  Medina was an inmate in the Pueblo County Jail in April 2022 when he orchestrated the assault on the deputy in an inmate housing area where he and two  inmates assaulted him. The inmates punched and kicked the deputy before Medina placed the deputy in a chokehold. The deputy was able to call for help and other deputies arrived to assist him but not before the deputy suffered serious bodily injury. Medina will now be sentenced in November. He is currently in the Department of Corrections serving a sentence in an unrelated case. The two other individuals involved, Michael Wear, 37, and Isaiah Fuentes, 32, were sentenced to 9 years each in DOC for their role in the assault.
