The Evidence/Property section is comprised of two individuals designated as Evidence Custodians who are civilian members that are appointed. This section is overseen by the Administrative Captain and POST certified Administrative Services Sergeant.
The Evidence Custodians primary responsibility is the lawful handling, storing, retrieving and releasing of items identified as evidence in criminal investigations and property collected which is not deemed to be evidence. They are required to meet rigid industry standards in proper evidence maintenance and documentation established by the International Association for Property and Evidence (IAPE) and both are Certified Property and Evidence Specialists through this organization.
In addition to evidence and property they are tasked with managing, ordering, issuing and tracking of the organizations Quartermaster and Office Supplies as well as all duty issued equipment such as:
- Ammunition
- Cameras
- Flashlights
- Radios
- Tasers
- Weapons
Evidence/Property hours of operation is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Release of Evidence/Property is done by appointment only. They can be reached at 719-583-6452.
