Mission
The mission of the Pueblo County Detention Facility is to provide community safety through a secure, constitutional detention facility. To accomplish this mission we strive to maintain a safe, clean and secure environment for our staff and offenders. The philosophy of the women and men of this bureau goes beyond traditional custodial care. We provide opportunities in education, counseling, physical and mental health and personal development for the purpose of assisting the offender toward successful re-entry into community. We are committed to excellence and are dedicated to managing our offenders in a professional manner, treating all with dignity and respecting their constitutional rights.
Message from Pueblo County Sheriff's Office Detention Bureau Chief
Hello, and welcome to the Detention Bureau. We service local, state, and federal law enforcement entities. We strive to operate a clean, safe, secure, and humane environment for staff, visitors, and individuals who are incarcerated. Beginning in 2016, the average daily population (ADP) in the facility exceeded 700; an average of 545 offenders were housed on a daily basis. Our ADP in 2017 was 749, 721 in 2018, and 661 in 2019. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, measures were implemented to reduce the jail's population through the courts, the District Attorney's Office, and the Public Defender's Office. This caused our 2020 ADP to be a much lower number, which was 482.
Services
Our facilities hold individuals arrested on misdemeanor and felony charges and about one-third of our population is sentenced to the Jail. We provide opportunities in areas of education and treatment, it is our goal to help individuals in custody gain skills needed upon release to their community.
