Patrol Services Division

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) provides patrol services throughout over 2,400 square miles of Pueblo county twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and three hundred sixty-five days a year. The Patrol Division provides continuously available units to:

• Respond to calls for service
• Deter crimes by visible patrol
• Detect, apprehend, and process persons involved in criminal activity
• Recover and return lost or stolen property
• Ensure the safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic
• Provide follow-up investigation of offenses when warranted by time or circumstances
• Reduce both immediate and potential hazards to the community

Patrol Division personnel are divided into three shifts. Each shift is directed by a lieutenant and two sergeants. Deputy positions are distributed between all three shifts based upon the needs of the community.

Colorado State University-Pueblo

Deputies assigned to the CSU-Pueblo campus strive to protect life and property, to deter crime, develop community relations, and respond to calls for service in an effort to create a safe environment conducive to learning for the faculty, staff, students and guests.

Canine (K-9) Unit

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office canines are trained to protect deputies, search buildings and other areas for hiding suspects, track suspects or lost persons, search for the odor of drugs, and search for evidence. The Canine Teams are members of the United States Police Canine Association Region 14 until the end of 2019. At the beginning of 2020, the canine unit will join the National Canine Police Association for their certifications. 

Mounted Horse Patrol

Working both as a patrol unit and with the ability to perform Search and Rescue in remote terrain, the Mounted Patrol is a useful addition to the patrol section. Both civilians and deputies are able to lend themselves and their horses to the service of Pueblo County. This unit often teams up with the Pueblo Police Department during community events.

Metro Bomb Unit

Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor recognized that the threat of improvised explosive devices for the city and county was a major concern. At one time, the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office had a bomb unit with resources and the city had a certified bomb unit. The sheriff believes in reducing duplication of services while at the same time combining resources where practical for a bigger impact. The Metro Bomb Unit is a metropolitan effort that has regional outreach.

Special Weapons & Tactics (SWAT)

This team has been instrumental in resolving several high-risk incidents, both in Pueblo County and in other jurisdictions. The SWAT Team consistently performs at a level beyond what the normal patrol deputy is able to accomplish. They also train consistently in all types of weather and adverse conditions. This is a team of dedicated deputies who volunteer to do this particular job, at great risk to themselves and for no extra pay, 24/7/365. The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), the SWAT Medic Team, and a Tactical K-9 element continue to be vital attachments to the SWAT Team.

Narcotics

The PCSO Narcotics Unit was implemented when Sheriff Taylor took office in 2007. This unit works diligently to investigate, control, and prevent the illegal sale, possession or manufacturing of illicit drugs in Pueblo County. This unit is responsible for everything from executing search warrants to the surveillance of suspected narcotics manufacturers and dealers.

S.O.A.R.R.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE AERIAL RESPONSE & RESCUE  

We deploy UAV/Drones into our communities with the most advanced equipment enabling our deputies to serve our community.  The S.O.A.R.R. UAV program will test the effectiveness of deployments involving life-saving missions and crime scene documentation. The most common responses to what law enforcement agencies are using this technology for are: Missing persons (83%) Natural Disaster response (79%) SWAT response (76%) Crime and traffic accident scene documentation (71%).
